This started with Neil Diamond's post of a version of "Sweet Caroline" with slightly altered lyrics.
I sort-of-liked it, but because only a few words were changed, it seemed to me that it lacked internal consistency. So.
COVID-1-9
(Lyrics mostly by Joel Polowin, 2020, TTO: "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond)
Where it began,
Prob’ly somewhere in Wuhan
Now the world tour is going strong
I’m not a fan
How this disease is growing
That’s why I hacked my fav’rite song
Hands, washing hands
Don’t reach out, don’t touch me, I won’t touch you
COVID-1-9
Good times used to be so good
Try keep in mind
Soon enough again they should
Right now I
Miss all my friends
Sometimes I feel so lonely
Miss going out with people too
Cancelled events
Restaurants take-out only
“Flatten the curve” is what we do
Hands, washing hands
Can’t reach out, don’t touch me, I won’t touch you
COVID-1-9
Good times used to be so good
Try keep in mind
Soon enough again they should
Oh, oh, oh
COVID-1-9
Good times used to be so good
Try keep in mind
Soon enough again they should
Try keep in mind
Soon enough again they should
I'd appreciate constructive criticism; I'm hoping to record this. I found a quite-nice MIDI of the song, and once I finally managed to import it to MuseScore, it sounds pretty good. (MuseScore didn't handle the timing very well initially. I ended up importing it in 12/16 time, then switching that to 4/4.)
In particular, I'm concerned that the "that's why I hacked my fav'rite song" may be, I dunno, a bit too self-indulgent or something.
I'm also considering finishing by trailing off with "Hope, hope, hope...". Possibly a bit too saccharine, but hope is needed.
Thanks!
