filkUsers can ask Dreamwidth to put an account into memorial status. Here's the FAQ entry on how to do it. I've submitted a request to memorialize hms42, but it's probably more convincing that the request is legitimate if multiple people submit one. I think you can also comment on my request to add your support. (Sorry, I'm now seeing that it's a private request, not visible to anyone else. There isn't any obvious way to make it public.)
That helps to guarantee that the account won't be dropped for inactivity or taken over by a nasty person. (Someone did that to Harold's account on the Filk Archive a couple of years ago.)
