Damn. I never caught an actual announcement about his condition. I knew he was not there because of illness and the general impression I got from overheard bits of conversation was that it was serious, but I didn't realize it was that serious.
I didn't get to know him as well as I should, but he was a good and kind person. He'd become custodian of a bunch of old cassette recordings from cons in the 1980s that were just slowly decaying in my house. He provided copies of what he'd converted to modern media on SD cards that he paid for himself.
