Pasadena in November!

The Pasadena Folk Music Society's next concert will feature The Susie Glaze New Folk Ensemble in 3 weeks on Saturday, November 11 at 8:00 PM in Beckman Institute Auditorium (Little Beckman).  Last month, Susie was named to LA Weekly's list of 10 best Country/Americana artists in Los Angeles.  The Weekly went on to say that Susie "delivers warm, amber-toned vocals that explore the psychic depth of a lyric with deft acuity and technical perfection."  Susie has performed here four times before with the Hilonesome Band.  The name change reflects some variations in the personnel of her band, but our show will feature the same line-up as her previous few shows, Steve Rankin on bouzouki, Mark Indicator on fiddle, Fred Sanders on bass, and Rob Carlson on guitar, along with Susie's vocals, guitar, Appalachian dulcimer, and autoharp.  The guys do some singing as well, both backing and lead.  Collectively, Susie and the New Folk Ensemble combine elements of bluegrass, old time, swing, and Celtic on ballads, and fine songs by contemporaries, like Jean Ritchie and Ernest Troost, as well as some fine original songs by the band members.  They cover a large swath of folk music and they do so well with all of it.  The broad catch-all, "Americana" describes them quite effectively.  We start you out with one of our favorites, their version of Evangeline, to give you an idea of how good they sound.   

Tickets for the show are $20 for adults and $5 for Caltech students and children.  You can order them on the phone by calling the Caltech Ticket Office at (626) 395-4652.  Online tickets are available here until the end of  Thursday, November 9.  You can avoid the service charge by purchasing tickets at the door on the night of the show or by visiting the Ticket Office in person at 1200 E. California Boulevard in Pasadena (Southeast corner of Wilson Avenue).  Their Office hours are 10 AM-4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Note that the main entrance to the Ticket Office is currently under construction and you may have to use the west entrance at Wilson Avenue.  See our web site at  www.pasadenafolkmusicsociety.org for more about what is coming up.
