Notice about filkarchive

For those who still look at Livejournal (I know most people are not on there any longer), the filk archive LJ account has been hacked a couple of times over the past few days and they are posting in Russian on there.

Its going to get migrated over to Dreamwidth for the history to be preserved before the account is closed.

The site itself is currently down for reprogramming and will eventually be put back online.

The LJ account has since been cleaned up and migrated to filkarchive here on Dreamwidth.

This is especially disturbing to me because the Filk Archive itself was broken into, specifically hms42's and my accounts. A fake notice of my death was posted. Does this seem related? Posting in Russian doesn't sound like the same people.

hms42 should be far better placed to answer your questions. But I really doubt the two cracking cases are related. One was clearly targeted against you on a very obscure service. The other was on a worldwide service that has long been the targets of cracking, DoS, and spam.

"obscure service" simply meaning that it wasn't monitored anymore and was not set up to today's security standards, I assume?

Rather, that filkarchive.org.uk very small server with very few users, known to very few people, and with a cracking attempt that was targeted against a specific person using the server.

I am sorry, Gary, you misunderstood me here. I was taking a bit of offense with the term "obscure service" and was trying to get Karl-Johan to clarify and/ or rephrase.

I do think that it is an unrelated occurence; this journal was not crossposted to in a long long time, and so it was basically an "old journal" which is usually a target for being taken over for spamming.

Just a couple of posts appeared in Russian and I just deleted them and kicked them out of the account. Nothing posting fake info about you or I would have reached out to you directly to keep you in the loop.

Hopefully they will not appear again and I will drop a note into it that its migrated to here later.
