A little whining

This has been lurking in the back of my mind for quite some time, and has finally emerged.

Whining ’Skeeter
Lyrics by Joel Polowin, 2018 (TTO: “Red Winged Blackbird” by David Francey)

(Chorus:)
Thought I heard a whining ’skeeter,
Whining ’skeeter in my room
Thought I heard a whining ’skeeter,
Whining ’skeeter in my room

Hatched out in some stagnant puddle
Hear that horrid high-pitched drone
Nipped in through an open doorway
I’m not safe inside my home

(Cho)

By my ear it flits and hovers
3 a.m. when I’m in bed
Bleary-eyed, I just can’t spot it
Pull the sheets up o’er my head

(Cho)

Add this toll to global warming:
Insect pests expand their range
Places once free from malaria [mal-AIR-ya]
Now may face an awful change

Thought I heard Anopheles ’skeeter
Anopheles ’skeeter in my room
Thought I heard Anopheles ’skeeter
Anopheles ’skeeter in my room

(Cho)

Comments, please?  I find the last verse somewhat heavy-handed, but I'm fond of "an awful 'skeeter" / "Anopheles 'skeeter".
