The future of @filknews
Jan. 9th, 2019 04:54 pmTwitter is getting more and more annoying. I just learned that they suspended Maggie McNeill for tweeting that "They should ... burn the White House down!" in a context which obviously wasn't a serious threat. I'm seriously thinking about moving @filknews from Twitter to a Mastodon instance, if I could find one where it wouldn't just go unnoticed.
Each instance has its own flavor and focus. I currently have an account on Liberdon, but that instance is politically oriented and not well suited for news about filk. Mastodon.social is huge, and it could turn out to be a replay of Twitter. People with an account on any instance can follow accounts on any other instance that isn't blocked by or blocking the user's site, so not everyone would have to be on the same site.
What I'd like is an instance which is music-friendly or fan-friendly. What I post on @filknews isn't likely to be controversial, but it should fit in with the instance's purpose. People on the same instance are more likely to notice and follow an account. Then they can boost toots to get wider attention.
But I'm not sure there are even enough filkers on Mastodon to make it work.
Thoughts?
